MPLS / VPN
Multiprotocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network Service
Today's businesses require reliable and scalable data networks that deliver guaranteed performance
at an affordable cost. Simon Developing MPLS VPN provides private transport over US Signal's SONET
protected Internet Protocol (IP) backbone.
Geographically diverse locations can have direct, any to any communication without fixed private lines
or permanent virtual circuits (PVC's) which may be costly and difficult to scale. Quality of Service
(QoS) may be added to prioritize critical traffic during times of network congestion.
US Signal MPLS VPN includes the following features and benefits:
- Connectivity between customer sites without fixed or permanent virtual circuits
- Customers may choose from US Signal provided routers or use their existing compatible equipment
- Supports static routes, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
- Four classes of service available as part of the QoS option
Q: What is MPLS?
A: MPLS stands for Multiprotocol Label Switching, a technology used to improve network traffic flow,
ease of management and provide security.
Q: How does MPLS work?
A: Labels are assigned to IP Packets to determine how they are sent through the US Signal MPLS network.
This allows a customer's traffic to be isolated ensuring privacy, while also allowing packets to forward at
a layer 2 (switching) level instead of the layer 3 (routing) level which improves efficiency.
Q: Why would I need MPLS?
A: MPLS allows traffic to be sent from location without the need for fixed circuits or PVC's. This
can greatly reduce costs while maintaining security. MPLS also provides an efficient platform for providing
QoS which prioritizes critical traffic across the network based on class.
